Planting Bridal Bush into the ground.
What to Buy at Bunnings
Baileys 25L Soil Improver Plus
Step 1: Dig the Perfect Hole
- Dimensions: Dig a hole twice as wide as the plant's existing container pot, but to the exact same depth.
- Keep the sand: Shovel the native sand you dug out directly into a wheelbarrow or onto a tarp nearby.
Step 2: Mix Your Upgraded Soil
- Baileys Soil Improver Plus: The 50/50 blend: In your wheelbarrow, combine 50% native sand and 50% Baileys Soil Improver Plus.
- Richgro Sand to Soil: Add the clay: Throw in 2–3 large cups of the Richgro Sand to Soil clay powder.
- Blend thoroughly: Mix everything together with your spade until it turns into a cohesive, dark, earthy loam.
Step 3: Prepare the Plant
- Hydrate first: Thoroughly water the bridal bush while it is still inside its plastic pot before planting.
- Unpot gently: Slide the root ball out. Gently tease the outer roots with your fingers if they look wound tightly around the base.
Step 4: Position and Backfill
- Check the level: Place the plant into the centre of the hole. Ensure the top of the root ball sits perfectly flush with the ground level.
- Backfill: Shovel your newly mixed upgraded soil blend back into the hole around the roots, pressing down gently with your hands to eliminate air pockets.
Step 5: Soak with Wetting Agent
- Mix the soaker: Dilute 20mL of the Richgro Ezi Wet Concentrate into a standard 9-litre watering can filled with water.
- Drench deeply: Pour the entire watering can slowly over the freshly disturbed soil to settle the plant in and guarantee deep water penetration.
Step 6: Mulch the Root Zone
- Apply the barrier: Spread a 5–7cm thick layer of the Pine Bark Mulch completely across the dug-out zone.
- Leave breathing room: Keep the mulch pulled back roughly 5cm away from the main wooden stem of the bush to protect the bark from fungal rot.
