- Apply a High-Quality Wetting Agent: Drench the soil area around the plants immediately with a surfactant wetting agent like Eco-Wet or a similar product available at retailers like Bunnings Warehouse. This breaks the waxy seal on the sand and allows water to actually penetrate the roots.
- Build an Organic Soil Blend Around the Base: Gently rake away the top mulch layer and scrape a ring around the plant. Carefully top-dress and blend in a mix of fine compost, aged sheep manure, and a soil-improving agent.
- Drench with Liquid Kelp/Seaweed: Mix a dilute solution of a seaweed tonic like Seasol into a watering can and thoroughly soak the entire root zone. This will help ease transplant shock, stimulate new fine root development, and strengthen cell walls.
- Keep Mulch Clear of the Stems: Ensure your wood chip or bark mulch is kept a few centimetres away from the plant's main central stems to prevent collar rot
